Photography and Words by Dwayne Tucker | TuckerTookThat

A few years ago, I met Scotty Sobek here in Miami.

We crossed paths in the neighborhood, and after seeing some of my photography, he mentioned that one day he’d love for us to work together.

Fast forward a few years, and this past summer, he reached out. He needed some portraits, we talked through a few ideas, and we made it happen.

Sometimes that’s how good things come together.

Scotty is originally from Detroit and now lives in Miami. He’s a DJ, a vinyl enthusiast, and, as I discovered during one of our shoots, a painter as well. I’ve had the opportunity to watch him perform live, and one thing I can say about him is that his passion for what he does is real.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for that.

Photography has always been such an important part of my life, along the journey, I spent time exploring music and pursuing my own creative ambitions there too. I know a little about the hours that go into developing a craft, the uncertainty, the sacrifices, and the belief you have to maintain in yourself long before other people recognize what you’re building.

The creative world isn’t easy. The music industry certainly isn’t.

And talent alone isn’t enough.

You have to show up. You have to practice. You have to study what you love, keep improving, and find the courage to put your work into the world.

Golf has taught me something similar over the years. You can practice the same shot a thousand times and still have days when nothing seems to work. But you keep showing up because you understand that progress is built through repetition.

Practice creates progression.

I believe that applies to just about anything worth pursuing.

It’s one of the reasons I gravitate toward people who are genuinely passionate about what they do. People who have dreams and are willing to put in the work to make something of them.

When I pick up my camera, I’m chasing something too. I want to make photographs that matter. Photographs that have a life beyond the day we create them. Images that somebody might look back on years from now and recognize as part of an important chapter in someone’s story.

That’s what excites me about photographing artists.

You’re not simply making someone look good. You’re helping create a visual record of who they are, what they believe in, and where they are in their journey.

Working with Scotty was an opportunity to contribute a small piece to the story he’s building.

And now, seeing him on the lineup for III Points Music Festival here in Miami is another accomplishment worth celebrating.

Scotty, congratulations on the work you’ve been putting in and the opportunities you’re creating for yourself. Keep chasing those dreams, keep manifesting, keep painting, keep playing records, and most importantly, keep believing in the work.

Thank you for trusting my team and me to create these photographs with you.

I see a bright future ahead of you, and I’m looking forward to seeing where your journey takes you.

If you’re heading to III Points, get familiar with the name Scotty Sobek and show him some love.

A legend in the making.

Gratitude is a must.
