Tears of Goodbye in Washington D.C.

Tears of Goodbye - Photography by Dwayne Tucker

Photographs take you around the world, and you meet great people. A few weeks ago, I received an email inviting me to enter my photograph in the Touch Me Here Exhibit from Robin McDougal. Robin is with the e-Glam, Inc. team.

There is so much I want to share in this article so I am going to break it up into two parts. Part one I tell you about the exhibit/the photograph and part two I tell you about my new and old experiences mixed.

Part One | Photographs Take You Around The World

The Touch Me Here Exhibit: “Artists are invited to submit their interpretation of the theme “Touch Me Here”. The submissions featured in the Touch Me Here exhibit should represent special moments in time that reflect various stages of love (first love, lost love, love renewed). Each submission should feature a written sentiment (love letter) that speaks to the viewer. The Touch Me Here exhibit is intended to marry our visual and tactile senses together in such a way that it tells the story of our heart’s fuel, love.”

I entered the photograph you see above titled, Tears of Goodbye, that I photographed a couple of years ago. The story that goes with it reads:

My Dearest Love,

I held back the tears with my eyes wide open and mentally recorded your disappearance. A negative thought of you never returning, polluted my lungs as I inhaled. I tried to think straight but I became seasick. You slowly sailed out of my arms into the sunset moving towards darkness. I feel empty inside, so cold, and so alone. Reminiscing became my brain’s governor, it’s as if I have no control over my thoughts. I am patiently waiting to become human again; a better me is one with you. I am missing you baby.

Yours forever,

Dwayne D.C. Tucker II

A few weeks later I received another email from Robin saying congratulations my entry was chosen to be a part of the exhibit. Last week Thursday, I flew to Washington D.C. to attend the opening event at the artist reception party (if you keep up with my DailyBooth you knew that).

The photograph is printed 24×36 inches on stretch canvas 1.5 inch deep:

Tears of Goodbye Print

If you are in Washington D.C. go to the Sewall – Belmont House & Museum on 144 Constitution Ave NE (Capitol Hill) and check out the artist work; I was really impressed by all of the entries!

” Art work will be displayed from September 24th, 2009 – January 15th, 2010.”

Part Two | Photographs Take You Around The World

In this section of the post I am going to be talking to you about my new and old experience mixed; this section is a bit more personal for my readers. A short story about the trip.

If you read up to this point you some-what care about my thoughts and I want to let you know that I appreciate the love.

Normally when I traveled, prior to this trip, I would travel with friends or I would be alone but meeting up with a person I knew at my final destination. This time was a bit different. Due to my friend’s finals we had to cancel the road trip we planned to visit this event. However, my love for photography combined with the interest of other Artvers in the Touch Me Here Exhibit I had to take a last minute flight.

I checked into my hotel, sat down on the computer chair thinking if this is what I really want for the rest of my life; flights to foreign places, hotel rooms, late nights then taking off again to repeat the process.

(Right now I am saying yes but later on I think I would much prefer to be a family man at some point with my family on the trips.)

I must admit that it felt weird being alone for the first couple minutes of the trip.
I didn’t have a DSLR with me but I took the Sony Cybershot DSC-N2, point and shoot digital camera walked around for a bit to rebooted my soul. Thank you God giving such love for photography. If I didn’t have the point and shoot I think I would have still walked around with my phone’s camera.

Artist at Touch Me Here Exhibit

The Two Other Gentlemen Left Earlier :)

The artist reception party was about to start. I felt so much love and so much passion with all of the artist in the same room; we were all there because we love art.

Before I close this entry I want to say, when you go to events – network, network, network. I met more new great artist and great contacts; I am sharing with you some of the people that left either flyers or business cards with me. Take a look at their works.

I like your work, especially the staircase down past the restaurant window. Its hard to frame that. it is composed like a painting. I very much like it. I also like your submission at Touch Me Here. We met there. Check out my website if you have time and I think you will remember me.

Dwayne,
It was great meeting you last week at the “Touch Me Here Exhibit”! What a brave soul you are venturing out to connect with other artists. Your written sentiment for ‘Tears of Goodbye” touched my heart as I felt your loss.

Continue your passion for your art!

Can you feel the love? :)
Elizabeth

@Karen Swenholt of course I remember you :)

@Elizabeth Santana Linares I feel the love!

Hi Dwayne-
Thanks for the lovely message, & your reflections of the trip.
I think we were the only two artists travelling from out of the DC area.
I also enjoyed meeting you and the other artists & jurors at the reception.
My husband Mark & I returned to the museum the day after for a tour,
being the home of Alice Paul, the women’s voting rights activist. I’m so glad we did that. It was very interesting, and the young woman who took us around was well-informed and energetic.
Thank you also for listing the artists’ websites here.
Take Care,
Nina
