In a typography class I watched the film Helvetica and for the first time and it was the first time I learned a little about how type/fonts were originally made. After completing the class, every ad I looked at I couldn’t help but to analyze the leading, the tracking and if the typeface worked on the ad; I realized the importance and the power a single typeface has to make/break an Ad.

I will be sharing one font worth sharing with you every Thursday here on the blog. A few years ago I heard about Dafont.com and I still use it today; it’s one of my favorite websites to find and download free fonts.

Capture it was created by Dfont.com’s member Cpr.Sparhelt. The designer says that he sometimes draws the character with Photoshop, inserts the picture in FontCreator (a software for creating fonts) and makes his drawings into characters.

I appreciate type designers and I think the idea of creating new typefaces is amazing. Sketching my own characters, scan then into Photoshop or Illustrator to draw then sending them to FontCreator to have the characters made same easy to me, I might have to give it a shot someday.

Even though I’m going to give designing my own typeface a shot someday, I will still have the type designer design the fonts (it’s what they do best), and I will continue to photograph my images and design my ads (it’s what I do best).
